If your vehicle has been impounded because of a parking violation, because it was disabled in a traffic accident, or for any other reason, it is important to retrieve the vehicle as soon as possible to avoid daily (and costly) impound lot storage charges.
Vehicles impounded by the Edmonston Police Department are towed and stored by McDonald's Towing Service,

Before a vehicle can be retrieved from the impound lot, a VEHICLE RELEASE must be obtained from the Edmonston Police Department. A Vehicle Release is an official form which authorizes the towing company to turn the vehicle over to it's
rightful owner, after all towing and storage charges have been paid.
Vehicle Releases can only be obtained from the Edmonston Police Department Headquarters located at:

From 9am to 5pm, Monday - Friday only.
The Fee for a Vehicle Release is listed below:
Impounded Vehicle (Traffic/Parking Violation) - $75.00
Impounded Vehicle (Traffic Accident) - $60.00
Impounded Vehicle (Traffic Accident / Edmonston Resident) - $10.00
Impounded Vehicle - Recovered Stolen Vehicle - $10.00
Cash, Money Orders and Personal Checks Only.

To obtain a Vehicle Release you must be the Registered Owner of the Vehicle,
or have Power of Attorney, and you must have valid identification.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PRIVATE IMPOUNDS
Private property owners have the lawful right to remove vehicles from their property which they feel have been abondoned, or violate their property management rules. Many apartment complexes and shopping centers employ the use of contract towing services to impound vehicles from their property.
The police department does not regulate these types of "private impounds," and has no involvement in the release of vehicles impounded under these circumstances. If you think your vehicle was towed from private property, you should contact the property owner or management company to inquire which towing company has possession of your vehicle. If you are unable to locate the property owner or their agent, you can call the Edmonston Police Department, and we will assist you in determining which tow company impounded your vehicle and why.
