Specifically, for incorporation of low impact development and best management practices, as well as the inclusion of, green infrastructure measures for urban storm water management, and for the overall positive impact the program was making on the physical, social and economic environments. Mr. Capacasa praised the pilot projects creative use of trees to provide shade and act as wind breaks and noise barriers, and improve air quality.  He also highlighted how the project was incorporating bio-swales, pervious pavements, green roofs and recycled materials including, the beneficial reuse of industrial by-products and clean energy street-lighting…” as other examples of the Edmonston green streets design initiative. reen streets design initiative.
